PROSE GUIDELINES

2026 Submissions Deadlines:
March 15 for Spring/Summer Issue
August 15 for Fall/Winter Issue
BEFORE SUBMITTING:
WHAT TO SUBMIT:
  • No set theme.
  • Submit original unpublished creative PROSE. Short fiction, flash fiction, creative non-fiction accepted. NO plays or poetry.
  • Send up to THREE (3) works, each less than 3,000 words. Pieces exceeding max won’t be considered; 2,500 or less preferred, no minimum.
  • We accept Microsoft Word (or Word compatible) files only. Do not send PDF or any format we cannot edit.
  • Simultaneous submissions allowed, but please notify us immediately if your piece is accepted elsewhere.
HOW TO SUBMIT:
  • Remove identifying information from files—your name should not appear anywhere in your documents.
  • Save each piece in separate file using title of submission as file name.
  • Email submission to moonShine@carolina.rr.com with each piece attached as separate file. Include following:
    • Titles of pieces submitted—match title to document and file name.
    • Publishing Name (as you want it to appear in moonShine review)
    • Contact Name (if different from name above, include first name)
    • Phone Number
    • Email Address
    • USPS Mailing Address
WHAT TO EXPECT:
  • You will receive confirmation of submission within a week.
  • You will receive a response whether or not your pieces are accepted, usually within two months of submission deadline.
  • We provide edits for accepted pieces:
    • Corrections made to grammatical errors.
    • Questions asked of anything unclear.
    • Improvement suggestions offered for flow, accuracy, tightening, etc.
    • Helpful to have basic understanding of Word’s “Review” function, since edits show in “Markup.”
    • We return file with edits highlighted—you must use this file to make final changes and/or accept edits.
